RIGA - After limping through 27 of 119 articles in a draft language law Sept. 28, the Latvian Parliament finally ran out of gas and agreed to put off final reading of the bill until a special post-election session Oct. 8.The bill has roots that stretch all the way back to 1995, when the Cabinet of Ministers drafted a new, stricter version of the country's language law that names Latvian the only official state language and regulates its use in the public and private sectors.However, the draft has yet to pass through three readings in the Parliament, which it must do before it becomes law.Th...
