An alien may also be issued a temporary residence permit where he has been granted subsidiary or temporary protection in Lithuania, where he is unable to depart due to a dangerous health condition and requires urgent basic medical aid, and also where the alien cannot be expelled from Lithuania.

An alien’s application for the issuance of the first temporary residence permit must be considered not later than within six months from the lodging of the application with a relevant institution, and that of an alien in possession of a long-term resident’s residence permit issued by an EU member state – within four months from the lodging of the application with a relevant institution.

A decision on the issuance (replacement) of a temporary residence permit to an alien is made by the Migration Department under the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania.
These are given the general provisions of the requirements applying for the temporary residence permit. Before applying for the residence permit it is recommended to consult with the local lawyers in order to evaluate the concrete case of the particular person.
