Tax wonderland for the wealthy

Lithuania has one of the most regressive tax systems in Europe. There are neither wealth, nor real estate (property) taxes. VAT is 21 percent, while the flat personal income tax is 15 percent, 21 percent if payroll taxes are included. This tax wonderland for the wealthy is being challenged. The opposition Social Democrats have introduced legislation to replace the current proportional income tax with a progressive one.
