TALLINN - According to Statistics Estonia, in January 2011 the production output of industrial enterprises grew 29 percent compared to January of the previous year, reports news agency LETA. The rapid growth reported at the end of 2010 continued into January. The growth in production has been mainly influenced by the increase in external demand, as previously, but the domestic demand also increased, compared to January of the previous year.
In January 2011, the production in manufacturing plants increased 42 percent, compared to January 2010. Export sales of the manufacturing companies grew significantly, by 77 percent. More than two thirds of the entire production of manufacturers was sold on the external market. The demand on the domestic market was continually lower – domestic sales increased 18 percent, compared to January of the previous year.

In January, production exceeded the volume of the previous year in most branches of industry. The growth in the production of manufacturing was most influenced by the branches holding bigger shares – manufacturing of electronic products where the production increased by more than four times, and manufacturing of wood and metal products where the production grew 19 percent and 45 percent, respectively. With respect to the branches of manufacturing holding smaller shares, the production increased considerably in the manufacturing of chemicals, motor vehicles, machinery and equipment mainly due to the increase in exports.

In January 2011, compared to December 2010, the seasonally adjusted industrial production rose 4 percent; the production by manufacturers grew 6 percent. In January 2011, compared to January 2009, the production of electricity increased 9 percent and the production of heat decreased 14 percent.
