In last week’s page 9 article, “Uphill Climb for Athletes as Funding Shrinks” Latvian Olympic Committee President Aldons Vrublevksis was accidentally misquoted. The article stated that the salaries of school sport teachers, qualifying of Latvian athletes for participation in the 2012 London Olympic Games and the organizing of the Latvian Youth Winter and Summer Olympiads in 2011 were in line to face the biggest cuts when in fact the opposite was true. Below is the amended quotation:

“LOC President Aldons Vrublevskis declared: “In year 2011 the Latvian Olympic Committee has determined priority areas that will not be endangered by the state funding cuts.
Three areas are considered untouchable - salaries of sport school teachers, the costs attributed to qualifying of Latvian athletes for participation in the 2012 London Olympic Games, as well as organizing of the Latvian Youth Winter and Summer Olympiads in 2011.”
