TALLINN - According to Statistics Estonia, in August 2010, compared to August of the previous year exports of goods at current prices grew by 37 percent, and imports by 34 percent, reports news agency LETA. The growth of the turnover of exports and imports was faster only in May this year.
In August exports of goods from Estonia amounted to 11.1 billion kroons (711.5 million euros) and imports to Estonia totaled 12.2 billion kroons. Exports of goods increased by 3 billion kroons and imports by 3.1 billion kroons compared to August of the previous year. The trade growth rate was bigger only in May this year, when exports grew by 39 percent and imports by 46 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
The trade deficit amounted to 1.1 billion kroons in August. The trade deficit increased slightly compared to August of the previous year.
The value of goods exported from Estonia to the European Union (EU) countries amounted to 7.5 billion kroons accounting for 67 percent of Estonia’s total exports. Exports to the EU countries increased by 36 percent compared to August of the previous year. Exports to non-EU countries, the so-called third countries, increased by 40 percent.
Imports from the EU countries to Estonia totaled 10 billion kroons, with a share of 82 percent of Estonia’s total imports. Imports from the EU countries increased by 38 percent compared to August of the previous year. Imports from the so-called third countries increased by 19 percent.
The trade deficit with the EU countries amounted to 2.5 billion kroons. The surplus of 1.4 billion kroons was announced in trade with the third countries.
In August compared to July 2010, exports grew by 2 percent and imports by 6 percent.
