Back in the day when I was an emigre in the United States, we used to have the following saying: “Where there are two Latvians, there are three Latvian Lutheran churches.”  In Chicago, where I grew up, the Lithuanians lived compactly. The Latvians did not.Here in the motherland, the saying can be revised: “Where there are two Latvians, there are three Latvian political parties.” There are 50 registered political parties in this country, plus another 17 that have become so moribund that they are under a process of liquidation. Not enough? Well, apparently...
