Finnish road transport strike begins, talks resume

The Finnish Transport Workers' Union (AKT) mounted an open-ended bus, coach and lorry strike Tuesday evening, with some estimates saying hundreds of thousands of commuters were inconvenienced the following morning.

The AKT and the Employers' Federation of Road Transport (ALT) met at the office of Esa Lonka, the government labour market conciliator, late on Tuesday but the talks proved fruitless.

The two sides were to meet again Wednesday morning.
