Thousands of people are reported missing in Finland every year. Although most are found, a few cases remain unsolved.
More than 6,000 people were reported missing in Finland in 2008, and more than a thousand search and rescue operations are carried out each year, according to figures from the Finnish Ministry of the Interior.
The fate of Finland's missing persons has become something of a national fixation in recent years, with new theories splashed across the newspapers and calls for information featured in prime time television shows such as YLE's Kadonneet (Missing) and Poliisi-TV.
