THE INDUSTRIAL ACTION brought most of the country's buses, coaches and lorries to a halt on Tuesday evening. The open ended strike continues until the Finnish Transport Workers' Union AKT and the Employers' Federation of Road Transport ALT reach a settlement.
The strike is the result of failing negotiations over a new collective agreement. The previous agreement ended 31 January and negotiations between the two parties have been ongoing since October without result, finally heating up to the situation at hand. The negotiations are now led by Esa Lonka, the government's labour market conciliator.
