More luggage havoc at Helsinki-Vantaa

As skiers head for the slopes in their droves, further difficulties are anticipated at the country's main airport.

HELSINKI-VANTAA Airport is once again preparing itself for a backlog in baggage handling, now that the ski holiday season has begun. Finnair predicts that the rush will continue through to 28 February. Travellers are requested to arrive at the airport two hours before their flight's departure.

"There will certainly be some backlogs, but not quite as bad as during Christmas," says Pekka Kähkönen, chief shop steward at Barona Handling, responsible for the airport's baggage services.
