Finland's Heinäluoma says Nato membership would lead to professional army -KP

Eero Heinäluoma, the leader of Finland's opposition Social Democrats' parliamentary group, was quoted as saying by provincial daily Keskipohjanmaa on Monday that full membership in Nato would lead to Finland making a transition to a professional army.

Mr Heinäluoma, a former finance minister, pointed out that Greece was the only Nato member that continued to train conscripts.

"In the [icehockey] divisions one can play after one's day job," Mr Heinäluoma was quoted as saying.
