Sports arena collapses in southern Finland

A sports arena in Järvenpää in southern Finland collapsed on Tuesday.

Rescuers said that 11 of the 13 people in the building at the time of the accident had escaped unscathed, with two children sustaining minor injuries.

Pentti Kapanen, the chairman of Järvenpää Areena, told the Finnish News Agency (STT) at the scene that a buildup of snow on the building's roof might have contributed to the accident but added that the snowload had been monitored throughout the winter.

The roof and some walls of the building measuring 50 metres by 40 collapsed.
