Retirement age for women jumps again

RIGA – The retirement age for women continued to creep higher last week – women can now collect a state pension only when they reach age 57. The retirement age for men remains unchanged at 60.This change is part of the far-reaching pension reform plan legislated in 1995. The reforms increased the minimum pension age for women from 55 to 56 in 1996. Additionally, the law prescribed 6-month increases in the pension age every year until the retirement age is the same for both sexes.
