Dual citizenship in Lithuania

  • 2008-07-23
According to this new law, ALL children born to one or both Lithuanian citizens (wherever born, not just EU or NATO) will be treated as Lithuanian citizens (in addition to another citizenship, which is granted by another state).

The EU and NATO countries are actually relevant only in case of naturalization of adult Lithuanian citizens who intend to naturalize in NATO or EU countries. In this case they will be allowed to retain their Lithuanian citizenship and will be treated as only Lithuanian citizens. In other words - Lithuanian citizens will not automatically loose their citizenship, and will have citizenships of both countries - Lithuania and another one from EU (or NATO)
