Estonia's senior ruling coalition party has reopened the issue of curtailing the number of national legislators, and its efforts should be applauded. In fact, this initiative is long overdue. All the Baltic states need to review the number of lawmakers they have and make the only prudent decision possible: dump the ballast. Estonia currently has 101 legislators, or roughly one lawmaker per 13,000 residents. By comparison, Finland and Sweden both have a parliamentary ratio of one legislator per 26,000 citizens.
