Former Municipal Affairs Minister Aigars Stokenbergs is one of a string of ministers the government has lost in a growing crisis which has left the ruling coalition teetering on the verge of collapse. Stokenbergs was kicked out of the ruling People's Party on the grounds that he was "causing dissent in the party." He has alleged that the move was actually in retaliation to his opposition to a new Riga city waste management plan 's an area in which People's Party founder and so-called oligarch Andris Skele has business ties.
