The high-profile Vilnius energy conference came to a close on Oct. 11 with mixed results (see story Page 1). The addresses delivered by Baltic leaders 's President Valdas Adamkus from Lithuania, President Valdis Zatlers from Latvia and Prime Minister Andrus Ansip from Estonia 's focused on the Baltics as an "energy island" largely unconnected with Europe, on lessening dependency on Russian gas and on creating a common EU energy policy.
