When former Economic Minister Juris Strods handed in his resignation on Sept. 17, the nationalist For Fatherland and Freedom party was left with an empty post and the need to draw a new candidate from its ranks. The party settled on Einars Cilinskis, an economist by education who had been working in the Ministry of the Environment. He is currently waiting on approval from the prime minister to take the post.
