The Latvian presidential elections have come to a close with the ruling coalition's candidate, Dr. Valdis Zatlers, set to take the top post (see page 3). While the decision has drawn praise from the president and Prime Minister, Zatlers is unpopular in public opinion polls. This unpopularity has drawn criticism from opposition leaders both of the candidate himself and the electoral process as a whole.
