Upon joining the race for the Democratic Party's nomination for the 2008 presidential election, Senator Joe Biden joked that he was the "800th candidate." This was, of course, an exaggeration. However, with Democratic Senator Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney recently declaring their candidacies, there are already a dozen declared presidential candidates. And although the election itself will not take place until Nov. 4, 2008, the first candidate debates will be held in April this year. Compare this to the process of choosing the Latvian president.
