TALLINN - With most stocks scoring rises of several percentage points, nine new price records were set on the Tallinn bourse on Jan. 16.

The OMXT index firmed 2.53 percent, closing at 928.58 points, and the turnover from 1,035 deals totalled 115.87 million kroons.

"The overall buoyancy was unstoppable today, nine new price records were set," director for equity markets at SBM Bank Mart Veskimagi told the Baltic News Service. "A snowball effect has arisen with optimism breeding optimism. Buying interest at that comes not only from Estonia and small investors. Other markets were not this optimistic today."

The biggest gainer was builder Eesti Ehitus, and telecommunications operator Starman and shipper Tallink made marked gains as well, Veskimagi added. Tallink also led trade and ended above the IPO price for the second consecutive day after an interval of more than 12 months.
