Lithuanian MP Edvardas Zakaris, 54, is an experienced politician whose career goes back to the Soviet era, when he was a member of the Kelme City people's deputy council from 1987-1990. After Lithuania restored its independence in 1990, he was elected to the Siauliai City Council where he served three terms. In 2004, Zakaris joined Seimas (Lithuania's Parliament) and became the first blind MP in Baltic history, having lost his sight at age 28.
