Hansapank dominates Estonia

TALLINN - Hansapank enjoyed a market share in Estonia of over 50 percent, judging by the industry's main indicators at the end of June, data released by the commercial banks and statistics by the central bank show.

In terms of total assets, Hansapank's market share was 52 percent, roughly 51 percent in loans issued and 53 percent in terms of deposits.

Hansapank was followed by SEB Eesti Uhispank, whose respective ratios were 28 percent, 33 percent and 26 percent.
Sampo Pank took third place in assets, with approximately nine percent, followed by Nordea Pank at eight percent.

In the ranking by loans, Nordea came before Sampo, with market shares of 11 percent and 10 percent, respectively. In deposits, Nordea trailed behind Sampo, having four percent of the market against Sampo's 10 percent.

There are seven local credit institutions and several branches of foreign credit institutions active in Estonia.
In Latvia, which has the largest banking sector in the Baltics, Hansabanka's share of assets in the system is approximately 22 percent.
