Yeltsin condemns anti-Latvia bill

MOSCOW (BNS) - Russian President Boris Yeltsin criticized a bill in the state Duma that aims to protect ethnic Russians in Latvia, saying it is at odds with Russia's national interests.The bill, which was passed in a first reading in May, calls for the elimination of human rights violations against Latvia's Russian community and endorses a number of retaliatory measures, including boycotts, sanctions and the complete suspension of relations with Latvia.Yeltsin, however, said the Duma should not pass the bill in a second and final reading, according to the Interfax news agency.
