Tough Mother

Reliable liberal activist/actress Susan Sarandon joined Cindy Sheehan for an anti-war Mother's Day protest in Washington, D.C. on May 14.

In an open letter to first lady Laura Bush, Sarandon suggested that President George W. Bush telephone mothers whose sons had given their lives in Iraq. "Those moms praying as they wait for the phone to ring and to hear the voice of their child serving in Iraq," Sarandon. "Let him be the one to tell them that this week the call will not be coming."
