VILNIUS - On Aug. 31, 1993, the Russian army finally left Lithuania for good. Since then, every Sept. 1, the country has celebrated what has become known as Liberty Day to mark freedom from an occupying army.Six years and a bit of perspective later, some are asking why the Russian army left Lithuania a full year earlier than it did Germany, Poland, Latvia and Estonia, all of whom bid Big Brother farewell in 1994.
