Young athletes in Riga are injured most often while playing basketball, municipal health care officials say. Riga City Council's education, youth and sports department director, Dagmara Pandere, told lawmakers that basketball caused 33 percent of all injuries sustained by young athletes. Usually, basketball players incur various back and leg injuries, the official added. Besides basketball, 25.7 percent of sports injuries are sustained in wrestling, and 23.2 percent in soccer. The lowest injury rate is among swimmers and volleyball players 's only 16.9 percent and 6.5 percent respectively. ...
