Latvia will hold parliamentary elections in October, and party leaders have already started throwing mud 's and not just at each other. Some politicians suspected of financial and legal improprieties have recently accused NGOs funded by U.S. billionaire George Soros of political meddling. In late January, Transport Minister Ainars Slesers called for laws restricting the activities of foreign-funded NGOs after the Centre for Public Policy Providus investigated alleged campaign-financing irregularities by his Latvia's First Party.
