Hansapank earned a 47.6 million kroon profit in August, which
brings the bank's profit over January-August to 323.3 million kroons
($21.37 million). In July Hansapank earned 41.2 million kroons in
profits. Of the bank's total income in August, net income from
interest after provisions accounted for 52.5 percent, financial
income 18.2 percent, service charges 27.6 percent and other income
1.7 percent. The bank's loan portfolio at the end of August stood at
12.03 billion kroons and the sum total of clients' deposits at 13.53
billion kroons.
The net profit of Optiva Bank in January-August was 9.7 million
kroons, of this 982,000 kroons in August. In July, Optiva Bank
earned 1.1 million kroons of profit. Of the bank's income in August,
net income from interest accounted for 37 percent, commission and
service charges 30.7 percent, income from currency exchange
operations 28.7 percent, income from stock investments 1.7 percent
and other income 1.9 percent. Of Optiva Bank assets, the net loan
portfolio increased by 29 million kroons, or 1.6 percent during the
month, and accounted for 54.1 percent of total assets at the end of
the month. Loan provisions made up 9.4 percent of the gross loan
portfolio at the end of the month.
Uhispank earned 64.4 million kroons profit in January-August, of
this 9.6 million kroons in August. The bank's profit in July was
6.7 million kroons. Interest from income accounted for 59.4 percent,
service charges 19.5 percent, financial income 16.1 percent and
other income 5 percent in the bank's income structure, the bank
reported. Uhispank's total assets stood at 14.4 billion kroons as of
August 31, up by 71 million kroons, or 0.5 percent, over the month.
Latvia
The Centrs shopping mall earned a profit of 7,703 lats ($13,281) in
the first six months of 1999 on a net turnover of 160,494 lats,
Commercial Director Olafs Vitols told BNS. He said the company's
business profile still remains in real estate developing. The
Latvian Central Depository of Securities has registered 520,902
shares in Centrs. The shares are quoted on the free list of the Riga
Stock Exchange.
Vegetable oil-extraction factory Liepajas Ellas Ekstrakcijas
Rupnica lost 155,092 lats on a turnover of 493,409 lats in the first
eight months of 1999, reported company representative Mara Bauze.
Both the loss and turnover have increased as compared to semi-annual
figures.
Lithuania
Zemes Ukio Bankas reported an eight-month net profit of 9.44
million litas ($2.36 million), which accounts for more than 68
percent of the bank's projected profit for the whole year 1999. The
bank posted a net profit of 14.08 million litas for the first eight
months of 1998. The assets of the state-owned bank increased 18.12
percent over the initial eight months of 1999 to 1.735 billion
litas. Zemes Ukio Bankas had issued 984.42 million litas worth of
loans as of late August, with its loan portfolio having grown 5.89
percent since the beginning of the year.
Alita sparkling wines and alcoholic drinks manufacturer reported a
13-percent decline in its eight-month sales this year against the
same period in 1998. The company sold 47.134 million litas of
products in January through August of this year, down from 54.167
million litas in the first eight months of 1998. "The results are
not bad, given the Lithuanian economic situation," Alita's Financial
Director Vilmantas Peciura told BNS. The company's managers project
an annual turnover of 80 million litas for 1999, down from 86.2
million litas posted last year.
Snoras Bankas reported a net profit of 4.712 million litas for the
first eight months of 1999, which accounts for 69 percent of the
bank's budgeted annual profit of 6.843 million litas. Snoras had a
non-audited monthly net profit of 699,000 litas in August, said
Chairman of the Board Raimondas Baranauskas. As of late August,
Snoras' assets totaled 490.5 million litas, a month-on-month
increase of 5.3 percent. The bank's loan portfolio grew to 199
million litas as of late August, up from 93.6 million litas reported
at the start of the year.
Vilniaus Bankas posted a non-audited net profit of 46.583 million
litas for the first eight months of 1999, which accounts for 64.87
percent of its projected annual profit of 71.9 million litas.
Lithuania's largest private bank boosted its eight-month profit from
42.22 million litas reported for the respective period in 1998.
Vilniaus Bankas' monthly profit was 6.1 million litas in August
1999. The bank said its assets currently totaled 3.084 billion
litas, an increase of 11.9 percent since the start of the year. The
total volume of loans issued by the bank grew 18.4 percent
year-on-year to 1.70 billion litas. The loan portfolio increased
16.5 percent from the beginning of 1999.
