An axis of incompetence?

Three otherwise separate events over the past few weeks have highlighted the lack of competence by which the European Union's economy is handled.France and Germany are seen by many as the leaders of the EU 's they certainly lead the EU with respect to unemployment: The combined number of jobless people in the two countries exceeds the total population of the three Baltic states. A lack of willingness and ability to seriously address this problem have left the two economies sputtering for most of the past 10 years to the dismay of trading partners and fellow EU countries.
