European court backs reporter's case

TALLINN - The European Court of Human Rights decided on Oct. 19 to continue with its investigation of an Estonian journalist's claim that his freedom of expression rights were violated, a spokeswoman at the Council of Europe said.Enno Tammer, an award-winning investigative reporter, complained to the court last year after he was fined for insulting Vilija Laanaru-Savisaar, the wife of Center Party Chairman Edgar Savisaar, during an interview.The European court's decision that the case deserves further investigation does not necessarily mean the case will go to trial, according to the spoke...
