Baltic stock exchange cooperation inevitable

Possible cooperation among the Baltic stock exchanges is currently the center of attention of stock market authorities. Representatives of the three Baltic exchanges held their regular quarterly meeting in Tallinn on August 6 to discuss progress to date and future projects towards the integration of Estonia's, Latvia's and Lithuania's stock markets.

Main topics on the agenda were the Baltic exchanges' cooperation with international exchange alliances, the principles to be adopted in drafting a Baltic list of local blue-chip securities, the publication of joint statistics and the creation of a common web site.

Riga Stock Exchange President Uldis Cerps believes that the main reason behind Baltic stock market cooperation is the increasing competition in capital markets due to globalization and regionalization processes.
