The Lithuanian securities market continued to rise last week, outshining the Estonian and Latvian bourses the whole month of August.

In August the share prices of the more-or-less liquid shares in Estonia and Latvia dropped slightly, while Lithu-ania's blue chips posted strong gains.

In the past four weeks from July 30 to August 27 the Latvian bourse's RICI index was off 0.4 percent to 166.08 and Estonia's TALSE index was down 1 percent to 113.54, but the LITIN-10 has jumped by 14 percent during that period to 1,199 points.

Looking at the market trends since the beginning of the year, Latvia's has been losing ground and its RICI is down 10 percent while Lithuania's LITIN-10 is up 20 percent and the TALSE, up 25 percent. In addition, the turnover on the Riga Stock Exchange has been about five to 10 times less than the turnover on both the Tallinn and Vilnius bourses.
