VILNIUS - As Lithuania's top politicians sharpen their budget-cutting axes, some officials are worrying that cuts in defense expenditures could complicate the coun-try's attempts to achieve one of its top goals - joining the NATO alliance.Povilas Malakauskas, the country's vice minister of defense, said a 54 million litas ($13.5 million) reduction in the defense budget could adversely affect a 10-year army development program designed to bring the military up to NATO standards."This program has a direct reference to NATO integration," said Malakauskas.
