RIGA - Taking into account the ideological contradictions between the political parties making up the potential new government, this government will not last for the long-term, the board chairman of the Union of Greens and Farmers Armands Krauze told LETA.

He claimed that there is still a long road ahead until the government is approved, and that there could be problems in putting together the government declaration. ''They mathematically have the votes, but for them to agree on the government declaration will be difficult taking into account all of the contradictory promises made during the pre-election period,'' Armands Krauze, whose party has been excluded from the government formation talks, said.

The politician pointed out that, for example, the New Conservative Party has made unrealizable promises. ''Billions are needed to implement their ideas, which is unrealistic,'' Krauze said of the party which excluded the Greens/Farmers from the government formation talks.

Assessing the possibility of working in the opposition, Krauze claims that the party will continue to closely follow along the situation and ''will not allow any attempts of theft''.

As reported, controversial Ventspils Mayor Aivars Lembergs, believed by many in the media to be the eminence grise of the Union of Greens and Farmers and is currently on trial for serious fraud and money laundering, was named one of the country's three so-called oligarchs by former Latvian President Valdis Zatlers.
