The business and software development company Net Group, in collaboration with Estonia's largest business information database Creditinfo, will develop an international sustainability tool aimed at promoting cross-border cooperation and supporting companies in meeting the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
According to Joanna Annion, project manager and representative of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, which serves as the lead partner for the ESGTool, the main goal of the tool is to promote a sustainable mindset, assist companies in fulfilling the European sustainability reporting standards, and map environmental, social, and governance standards.
"The web platform being developed will help small and medium-sized companies in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania take their first steps in stakeholder mapping and impact assessment, providing knowledge and support materials to facilitate the adoption of the European Union's sustainability objectives," said Annion.
The development work for the platform will be carried out by Net Group, a business and software development company, together with Estonia's largest business information database, Creditinfo.
"The platform we are building will not only help companies comply with new regulations but will also give them the opportunity to stay a step ahead by aligning their activities with global sustainability trends, thereby ensuring a competitive advantage in international markets. For us, the project provides an opportunity to be a pioneer in the Baltic Sea region and help companies create long-term value both economically and socially," said Priit Kongo, founder and CEO of Net Group.
He added that building such a platform requires the developer to have strong knowledge of cooperation with the public sector, as well as extensive experience in high-impact IT projects and strong ESG competence, an area in which Creditinfo supports Net Group.
"We are happy to collaborate with NetGroup to help the regional companies of Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to better understand the ESG area and how they individually can contribute to a more sustainable future. Creditinfo will bring to the table our extensive experience and know-how from the Icelandic market where we have been actively promoting and building such solutions for many years now. We feel that working together with the governmental parties of this initiative and Netgroup we are able to make a significant leap forward in the region on how the various reporting standards are used and adapted in the market," said Elari Tammenurm, CEO of AS Creditinfo Estonia.
"It is a pleasure to be able to use our experience from Iceland, where we have developed an ESG platform currently used extensively, to other markets. Our vision in this project is to support Netgroup with sustainability expertise to deliver a world-class software, easing the work for reporting companies internationally," said Reynir Smári Atlason, Director of Sustainability at Creditinfo Group.
The development of the ESG tool is part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting digital innovation and transformation in the Baltic Sea region.
The project is funded through the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, with the cost of the ESG platform work totaling 235,000 euros. The project's deadline is December 2025.
The project consortium includes the ministries of the region's countries, as well as leading ICT associations/organizations, including the Estonia's Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications (MKM), Estonia's Ministry of Finance, the Estonian Association of Information Technology and Telecommunications (ITL), Zero Waste Estonia Foundation, the Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA), the Lithuanian Association INFOBALT, and DIMECC from Finland.
