RIGA - If Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics invites Evika Silina, New Unity's candidate for the prime minister, to form the new government, negotiations on the coalition could start from a "blank page".
In an interview with commercial TV3 television, Silina explained that the initial conversation with the president would be about the work to be done. On many of the issues also mentioned by Rinkevics on Thursday, there could be an agreement with the parties represented in the Saeima that could be a part of the new coalition.
At the same time, while on most issues there could be agreement with the parties, the issue of the Istanbul Convention is not so "unambiguous", as there are parties that would not be in favor of it.
Silina said that she was quite confident about the majority in the new coalition, but she would like it to be as broad as possible.
She also pointed out that there are signals that the United List and the National Alliance could also be part of the new government, but negotiations are still needed on this.
As reported, Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) announced on Monday that he will resign from the post of prime minister and will not run for the post again.
President Rinkevics next week invites all political parties represented in the Saeima to consultations, the president said today at a press conference after receiving a letter of resignation from Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity).
