TALLINN – In the second nationwide 'E-rehkendus' online math competition, nearly 12,000 people put their skills to the test, an increase of 872 participants from the previous year.

In total, the competition attracted 27,312 interested individuals, with 11,891 of them submitting their answers. This marks an increase of 872 submissions compared to last year.

The grand prize of 1,234 euros from SEB Bank was raffled among all participants who answered correctly. The winner was Tõnu Robert Rand. A total of 213 people answered all 12 questions correctly without using AI.

A new feature this year allowed participants to compare results within groups, with a total of 813 groups registered. The group from Nõo Science Gymnasium had the most participants with 262 members, followed by the Narva State Gymnasium group with 129 members.

TalTech Rector Tiit Land took the test with students from Pärnu Koidula Gymnasium, whose alumni have for years represented the largest share of new students at the university of technology. Land emphasized the link between mathematics and the future. "Our country's digital transformation, as well as our environmental and economic sustainability, depend on skills in the exact sciences. Mathematics is not just formulas and exam results; it is our second national language," Land stated.

The questions were compiled by members of the School Mathematics Association of the Estonian Mathematical Society: mathematics teachers Hele Kiisel, Helen Kaasik, Kristel Tamm, and Anneli Nellis. Unlike last year, the website now only displays validated data from genuine participants.

All of this year's questions will remain accessible online until the next 'E-rehkendus' event. The detailed solutions will be published on Friday, October 10.
