TALLINN - According to figures available from the population register, Moisakula, a town in the Mulgi municipality in southwestern Estonia, has lost the title of Estonia's smallest town to Kallaste on the shores of Lake Peipsi, regional newspaper Sakala reported on Friday.

As at the beginning of 2024, Moisakula had a population of 741, whereas Kallaste had 716 residents.

"It is with a bit of sadness in our hearts that we pass on the title of the smallest town that has adorned Moisakula for many years to Kallaste," the Mulgi municipality administration said on its website.

Ervin Tamberg, whose unofficial title is mayor of Moisakula, said the number of inhabitants of Moisakula has remained more or less the same for more than a decade now.

"Of course, there's mortality, but we've been having low property prices, people from the capital have bought summer homes here and have subsequently moved to Moisakula as well," he said.
