RIGA - The government coalition fully supports Ilze Indriksone (National Alliance) as the candidate for economics minister and Kristaps Eklonas as the candidate for interior minister,  Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins (New Unity) told journalists following the weekly coalition meeting Monday.

The prime minister said that this week his Cabinet will again have all ministers as the Saeima on Thursday is expected to vote on appointing Economics Ministry parliamentary secretary Ilze Indriksone as interior minister and the State Fire and Rescue Service's deputy head Eklons as interior minister.

Karins emphasized that in the current complicated times it is extremely important that the government has all ministers, so that it can tackle critical tasks like bolstering Latvia's defense capabilities and energy security and independence, as well as provide targeted support to those who need it most.

The prime minister welcomed the government coalition's readiness to continue "existing good cooperation".

As reported, the two ministerial posts became vacant after Marija Golubeva (Development/For) had to resign as interior minister and Janis Vitenbergs (National Alliance) was removed as economics minister.
