RIGA - Saeima Speaker Daiga Mierina (Greens/Farmers) together with the speakers and vice-speakers of other Nordic and Baltic (NB8) countries' parliaments will visit Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, until this Wednesday to meet with the country's top-ranked officials, LETA was told at the Saeima press office.

The visit marks the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, the historic peace treaty that ended the Bosnian war in 1995.

The visit is planned to discuss the progress of the country's reform process. Mierina said that the prospect of accession to the European Union is important to Bosnia and Herzegovina and supported, but that the process would be based on concrete achievements.

The NB8 delegation will meet the country's leaders at the Presidential Palace. The delegation will also meet Borjana Kristo, Chairwoman of Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as lawmakers from the lower and upper houses of the parliament during their visit to Sarajevo.

The speakers plan to visit Camp Butmir, where they will meet the leadership of NATO Headquarters and EUFOR, which oversees the military implementation of the Dayton Agreement in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The NB8 delegation is also scheduled to meet with representatives of civil society in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The NB8 format brings together the five Nordic countries - Denmark, Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden - and the three Baltic countries - Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
