TALLINN – The Harju County Court on Friday sentenced a 28-year-old man to 25 days' detention for driving a car at more than 200 kilometers per hour (kmh) in a 100 kmh zone while drunk on Wednesday.
At around 10:26 p.m. on Wednesday, a patrol registered a vehicle moving towards Tallinn on the Tallinn-Parnu-Ikla road at speeds of up to 203 kilometers per hour. The maximum permitted speed in said section of the road is 100 kmh, spokespeople for the police said.
A breathalyzer test taken after the vehicle had been pulled over revealed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. There were three more people in the vehicle in addition to the driver. The 28-year-old's driver's license had not been replaced with a new one at the scheduled time. Thus, driving a motor vehicle without the right to drive was added as an additional infringement.
The driver told the police he had been hurrying to a store.
