TALLINN - Estonian bus operator Lux Express has issued an apology for a serious bus accident that occurred Monday in Harju County, calling it a regrettable incident for which the company takes full responsibility.

Ingmar Roos, a member of the Lux Express management board, said that the company is doing everything it can to help police determine the exact cause of the accident as quickly as possible.

"We have conducted an internal investigation, reviewed the on-board camera footage, and spoken with the driver and several passengers. The information we have gathered does not support the claim, circulated on social media, that the driver rear-ended a slow-moving truck on the roadside because he was distracted by his phone," Roos said.

He emphasized that Lux Express has strict principles prioritizing road safety above all else.

"Phone use while driving is strictly prohibited for all our employees. We have maintained a zero-tolerance policy for years, and every employee knows that violating it results in immediate termination," Roos stated.

Regardless of the final outcome of the investigation, Roos admitted that the driver's attention lapsed, and the accident was preventable.

"This must never happen again. Safety has always been a core value at Lux Express. All our drivers undergo regular training, we use advanced vehicle monitoring systems, and we strictly track driving times to ensure our drivers are well-rested behind the wheel," he said.

Roos added that Lux Express will take this incident as a serious lesson and implement all necessary changes to prevent similar accidents in the future and improve passenger safety.

"We will keep the public informed about both the investigation results and the safety measures we are putting in place. We confirm that all medical and other costs resulting from the accident will be covered through liability insurance. We informed passengers of this on the day of the accident. Passengers who purchased tickets for the affected bus at the station counter are asked to contact us in writing at [email protected]," Roos added.
