Long-time Freeport of Riga CEO Loginovs steps down

RIGA - The long-time and controversial CEO of the Freeport of Riga Leonids Loginovs, whose name has been mentioned in various scandals over the years, has stepped down, Mareks Gailitis, the advisor the port's board chairman Andris Ameriks (Honor to Serve Riga), informed today.

He said that during a port board meeting today, Loginovs submitted his resignation from March 10 of this year.

The Freeport of Riga's board has since tasked the port's authority to come up with proposals on how the port's next CEO will be selected.

Gailitis did not comment in more detail about the reasoning for Loginovs' resignation. BNS has not been able to get in contact with Loginovs.

In accordance to the Freeport of Riga law, the port's CEO is appointed and dismissed after coordination with the Transport Ministry. BNS has also not been able to get in contact with Transport Minister Uldis Augulis (Greens/Farmers), who is currently on a working visit to Belarus.

Loginovs has been the CEO of the Freeport of Riga since 1998.

There have been several attempts to dismiss him from his post over the years after various scandals, all of them unsuccessful.

The port is the largest in Latvia in terms of cargo turnover.
