VILNIUS – The temporary bank solidarity levy, which is in place for a second year, has proved effective, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda says, adding that its further extension could be considered.

"The bank solidarity levy we have now has proved effective. It has provided additional financial resources at the most needed time when we need to host the German brigade, to make investments," Nauseda told journalists in Jonava on Thursday.

"Maybe if we extend it, we cannot expect to generate the same revenue (as for 2023 and 2024 - BNS), but we could still receive significant revenue to replenish our defense fund. And I would certainly not like to see this proposal rejected," the president said.
