Lithuanian president, Germanys' defense chief discuss regional security, defense

VILNIUS – As Lithuanian awaits the arrival of additional artillery and intelligence forces from Germany, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda met with visiting Chief of Defense of Germany General Eberhard Zorn on Tuesday to discuss regional security and defense as well as bilateral military cooperation.

Germany is an important ally and partner of Lithuania, especially in the area of security and defense, the presidential office noted.

"We appreciate Germany’s leadership and commitment to lead the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion in Lithuania. We welcome the decision to increase the number of German troops in our country. A strong partnership with Germany in defense is an integral part of Lithuania’s security," the Lithuanian resident said.

Nauseda emphasized that allied military presence in the region was both our security guarantee and a commitment made in solidarity to collective defense.
