Lithuanian PM and transport minister to arrive in Riga on maidan journey of new Vilnius-Riga train route

VILNIUS - Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte and Minister of Transport and Communications Marius Skuodis will visit Riga next Wednesday,  and will arrive on the maiden journey of the new international train route Vilnius-Riga.

While in Latvia, Simonyte and Skuodis are to meet their counterparts, Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina and Minister of Transport and Communications Kaspars Briskens.

The train will depart Vilnius at 6:30 am and will arrive in Riga at 10:43 am.

As reported, a passenger train will run daily between Vilnius and Riga, taking just over four hours, representatives of the Lithuanian state railway group Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai informed LETA earlier.

The price of a standard one-way ticket is EUR 24.

The train will leave Vilnius in the morning and Riga in the afternoon. The first journey will take place already on December 27.

Tickets for the direct train service from Vilnius to Riga are already sold out until December 31, according to information on LTG Link's website.

LTG Link has received a safety certificate from the European Union (EU) Railway Agency, which confirms that the company is ready to organize the international connection between Lithuania and Latvia.

"In order to offer customers the first trip to Riga already on December 27, the company regularly consults and coordinates all technical and operational aspects with Latvijas Dzelzcels, which manages the railway infrastructure in Latvia," added Seckus.

LTG Link will operate only international traffic on Latvian territory.
