Lithuania successfully cooperates with Poland's Orlen, Nauseda says

VILNIUS – Vilnius successfully cooperates with Poland's largest oil company Orlen after resolving disputes with Warsaw over Orlen's investment in Lithuania, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda said on Tuesday.

"I am glad the disagreements we had in the past have completely gone today, they are obsolete, and today we have great cooperation with PKN Orlen," Nauseda told a joint press conference with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda in Warsaw on Tuesday.

The disagreements were resolved in 2017 after Lithuania's state-run railway company Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (Lithuanian Railways) and Orlen signed a contract on freight tariffs and also Lithuania decided to rebuild the railway section from Mazeikiai to Renge, Latvia, dismantled a decade ago.

"All the problems that existed have been resolved, and even if they arise, they are fairly successfully resolved. (…) It’s our common interest to make our investors feel good so that they could pursue their goals and also benefit our countries," Nauseda said.

According to the presidential office, Orlen is the largest foreign investor in Lithuania, and Poland is the third-largest export and the second-largest import partner of Lithuania.
