Lithuania's FM meets Thai prime minister in Bangkok

VILNIUS - Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys met Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Monday, the Foreign Ministry said.

The minister and prime minister discussed bilateral relations between Lithuania and Thailand, as well as opportunities to expand economic and technological cooperation.

Budrys emphasised that Lithuania highly valued its friendly ties with Thailand, which date back more than a century.

The minister expressed Lithuania's support for Thailand's goal of joining the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development by 2028. Lithuania is also ready to share its experience and best practices from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development accession process.

Budrys also called for the resumption of negotiations on a double taxation avoidance agreement between Lithuania and Thailand, updating a 2008 draft in line with current international tax standards to create more favourable conditions for trade and investment.

The meeting also covered opportunities for Lithuanian companies to expand their activities in Thailand in digital technology, advanced manufacturing and life sciences. Budrys welcomed Thai investment in Lithuania, particularly the operations of Indorama Ventures in Klaipeda.
